Basic Misogyny

Basic Misogyny

IF YOU have woken up in the dystopian hellscape that is the UK today, you will have no doubt been faced with one of two things, firstly, the Mail On Sunday and their deeply misogynistic piece on Angela Rayner daring to be female while an MP, or second, the reaction to the Mail On Sunday and their deeply misogynistic piece on Angela Rayner daring to be female while an MP.

The article, penned by MoS political editor, Glen Owen, claims that unnamed Tory MPs have suggested the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Angela Rayner, “likes to distract the PM when he is at the dispatch box by deploying a fully-clothed Parliamentary equivalent of Sharon Stones infamous scene in the 1992 film Basic Instinct.” Owen, the human embodiment of a dumpster on fire, then goes on to claim that one MP said “She knows she can’t compete with Boris’s Oxford Union debating training, but she has other skills which he lacks”. Ah so first we have misogyny and now we are venturing into classism. Owen could claw back the article and not go down that line…but he does, of course, he does.

The Mail on Sunday being what it is, a shit rag, then delights in a side order of classism by pointing out that Rayner left school at the age of 16 while pregnant and with no qualifications to become a care worker. Johnson on the other hand attended Eton and Oxford by virtue of being a member of the lucky sperm club and being born to parents with vast amounts of money but very little common sense, his only qualification to do his job is a classics degree and the financial backing of several Russian oligarchs who he has thanked on numerous occasions with lucrative business contracts and seats in the House of Lords.

“likes to distract the PM when he is at the dispatch box by deploying a fully-clothed Parliamentary equivalent of Sharon Stones infamous scene in the 1992 film Basic Instinct.”

Mail on Sunday – unmamed ‘source’

Johnson has apparently condemned the tone of the article in a post on Twitter, but its sincerity can easily be called into question when the walking waste of brain cells that is Nadine Dorries posted, exactly the same tweet. I’m sure she will blame her dyslexia for that clusterfuck too.

Andrea Leadsome, a woman who surprises even Gavin Williamson in her ability to fail upwards, commented, “I like the Mail on Sunday and I enjoy reading it but I think it’s a totally ludicrous story that I don’t recognise”. Apart from the fact she admits to reading the Mail on Sunday, she is right about one thing though, it is a ludicrous story and it leaves us asking a number of questions.

The first and most important question, if Johnson can be put off task by the mere presence of a woman in the House of Commons then what should we make of his capability as Prime Minister?

Second, again, if he can be put off task by the presence of a woman in the workplace that surely should say more about him than it does her.

The first question has already been answered numerous times, we know he is incapable of being Prime Minister, his record on the COVID pandemic, Brexit lies and Russian oligarchs tell us all we need to know. As for the second question, again, we already know the answer, Johnson’s history of affairs and the numerous amount of children spawned as a result of those affairs have shown he is a man incapable of controlling himself around women and his ability to function properly as a Prime Minister should again be questioned.

But the most likely explanation for this whole Mail on Sunday guff piece is that it is yet another dead cat, one trying to divert attention from the fact we have a criminal for a Prime Minister, a Prime Minister desperately trying to save his own arse rather than taking accountability for his actions, a Prime Minister who is presiding over a House of Commons which acts as a refuge for those unable to understand the concept of consent and who think sexual harassment is a fun game to be played between committee meetings.

While the Mail on Sunday article is indeed awful and should be investigated by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) let’s also remember that while this sideshow plays out in the mainstream and social media, the Government will continue to do shitty things while our attentions are elsewhere. Don’t let them do it and hold the bastards accountable for every. single. action…
